The Hands-On Science Center (HOSC) received a generous donation of $12,000 from Great Lakes Cheese to sponsor its upcoming summer camps.
According HOSC Executive Director Sean Amidon, this significant contribution will provide scholarships for local children to attend our science camps, igniting curiosity and fostering a love for learning.
He added that this year, HOSC will be offering 50 scholarships for the Basic Science Camp and six scholarships for the Advanced STEM Camp during the “Week of Yummy Science” in the name of Great Lakes Cheese. The scholarships aim to make science accessible to more children in the community, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder educational opportunities.
Camp Details:
• Basic Science Camp: For ages 6-13, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each week covers a variety of scientific topics. Cost: $145/week.
• Advanced STEM Camp: For ages 8-11 and 12-16, with sessions from 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM respectively. This camp delves deeper into specific topics, such as the “Week of Yummy Science,” exploring the science behind food preparation. Cost: $245/week.
Both camps start Monday, May 27 and continue for nine weeks, with flexibility to join for individual weeks. Extended care options allow for drop-offs as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick-ups as late as 5:30 p.m. for an additional $35 per week.
The official check presentation by Great Lakes Cheese was held on April 26, 2024, marking a celebrated partnership between the two organizations.
Amidon expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“We are immensely grateful to Great Lakes Cheese for their support,” he said. “This partnership not only enhances our ability to bring engaging science programs to the youth but also strengthens community ties. It’s exciting to see such a respected company invest in the future of our children and the potential discoveries they will make at our camps.”
Amidon also invites other businesses and organizations to join in on partnerships with the science center.
“Great Lakes Cheese is setting a wonderful example of community engagement and corporate responsibility,” Amidon said. “We encourage other companies to match Great Lakes Cheese’s incredible support and consider sponsoring our summer camps as well. Each sponsorship plays a critical role in enriching our educational programs and extending opportunities to even more young learners.”
Organizations interested in also sponsoring camps can send an email to austin@hosctn.org for more details. For more information on the camps and how to register, visit www.hosc.org or contact Amidon at exec@hosctn.org.
