Wildcats win Region 4 Championship

The Tullahoma High School baseball team won the Class 3A Region 4 tournament after beating Upperman 5-2 Saturday.

The ‘Cats were carried through the tournament by their pitching, allowing just six hits total in the Region tournament. The two runs given up to Upperman were the first runs scored against Tullahoma this postseason.

The Wildcats had a dominant performance to open the bracket against DeKalb County winning 8-0 and only allowing three hits. Evan Tomlin put on a show, striking out 13 batters and only walking one. He went all seven innings, throwing 98 pitches. The bats showed up as well, getting on base 20 times. Andrew Fulmer and Colton Emory led the team in hits with three. Fulmer also walked twice, stole two bases and had an RBI. Emory recorded a stolen base as well. Jayron Morris, Tomlin, Hunter Hogan, Phillip Lemmon and Trevor Cole had a hit each. Cole and Hogan walked twice leading the ‘Cats in free passes. Morris, Baylan Tuten, Mason Bratcher and Lemmon took the other base on balls. Tuten stole a pair of bases. Cole had a sacrifice fly to pick up his RBI. Morris was hit by a pitch in the fifth to drive in a run.

Against Upperman, Tuten started on the mound. He went 4.2 innings allowing just three hits. He struck out five and walked three. Both of the Bees’ runs were scored with Tuten on the bump. The first came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. The baserunner got to third base after an error. The other run came on a home run in the third inning. Hogan took the mound to relieve Tuten. He struck out six batters, walked two and allowed zero hits.

Tullahoma answered the run scored in the top of the first with three of their own. Fulmer walked to start the inning. Tuten doubled to put runners at second and third with just one out for Tomlin. He walked to load the bases, then Emory took a four pitch walk to plate Fulmer and tie the game. With two outs and the bases loaded, Hogan hit a ground ball and reached on an error by the third baseman. The error allowed Tuten and Tomlin to score making it 3-1 ‘Cats. The only baserunner in the second was Morris with a single to center field. Tomlin doubled to lead off the third inning. Emory flew out, allowing Tomlin to tag up and advance to third. With two outs he scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 Tullahoma. Cole was the first baserunner for the ‘Cats in the fourth after he was hit by a pitch. Fulmer moved him to second base with a ground out the Morris singled into center field bringing Cole around from second. The only other baserunner in the game for Tullahoma was Cole when he singled in the sixth.

The Wildcats will host Loudon for their Sectional Series this week to determine who qualifies for State.
