Then & Now, Pt. 2
A
Continuing with a theme introduced a couple of weeks ago, here are three current views of Tullahoma buildings, along with ones of the same buildings several decades ago.
Water’s Edge Chocolate Company now occupies the building at 206 S. Anderson Street that housed Crimm’s Florist for many years. The Crimm’s photo was taken in the mid-1950s by Sam Crimm and was provided by Sam Crimm II.
One of the busiest corners in Tullahoma is the intersection of W. Lincoln St. with Jackson St. This 1952 photo looking southeast from that corner is a portion of the well-known panoramic one taken by Paul Pyle to commemorate Tullahoma’s centennial. The corner building was most recently Edward Jones Investments. Behind it on Jackson, what was once Tullahoma Parts & Service is now home to Minuteman Press. Drive by and notice the sides of that building, which still show the split face block from over 70 years ago. Vintage photo provided by Sam Crimm II.
Lastly, we have the former home of Moore Street Church of Christ on a postcard provided by Jimmy Walker. That card has a 1958 postmark on the reverse side and the view shows the old brick house parsonage and educational building. Now the main building is AxeScape and the corner building is an office building undergoing renovation. As an aside, the postcard was addressed to The Price Is Right TV show!
In addition to these weekly articles, I’m working on a pictorial book on Tullahoma history with Arcadia Publishing. Do you have stories and photos of old Tullahoma businesses, street scenes, or events that you would share? You can contact me at alanmayes@lighttube.net.
