Teen girl shot in road rage incident

Lawmen are looking for a gunman who shot a teenage girl in the head during an apparent road rage incident and then fled Tuesday evening on Normandy Road in Bedford County.

The teen, whose name has not be released by investigators, was airlifted for treatment of the gunshot wound and no condition status was available at the time of this writing other than she was in critical condition.

Investigators say the suspect that shot through the rear window of the car in which the teen was a passenger, was driving a late 1990s or 2000s Saturn SUV. The shot reportedly ripped through the head rest of the car and hit the girl in the head. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on Normandy Road as the victim and the other passengers in the car were heading toward Highway 41A South.

“The other passengers described the suspect vehicle as a small white SUV, possibly a Saturn or similar body style, occupied by a white male,” Bedford authorities revealed. “The suspect vehicle turned around and fled the scene toward Normandy on Normandy Rd. The suspect is still at large and investigators and deputies are currently working to develop leads. As always, we ask the public for your assistance in bringing this young ladies assailant to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. If anyone who lives on Normandy Rd., a connecting road, or in the town of Normandy and have cameras that may have recorded the white SUV traveling during this timeframe, please notify BCSO investigators.
