Dixie Marie Hickey Obituary

Dixie Marie Hickey died Thursday, June 20, 2024, at home in Tullahoma. She was the loving wife of Robert Franklin Hickey, who survives her. She and Mr. Hickey were married in Memphis on Aug. 1, 1959.

Born Dixie Marie Gill on March 23, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Richard Glenville and Vera Marie (Clubb) Gill and the granddaughter of the late Charles Nathaniel and Eliza Mae (Woods) Gill and William Arthur and Bennie (McCarty) Clubb.

Mrs. Hickey was a retired special education administrator and teacher. She was a member of First Christian Church of Tullahoma, the Colonial Dame of the XVII Century, a life member of the Beechcraft Heritage Museum and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Diane (Hickey) and Ricky Harold Boatman of Cookeville, a son and daughter-in-law Steven Marcus and Farrar Kay Hickey (Cockrell) of Huntsville, Ala., two granddaughters, Jessica Elaine Boatman of Cookeville, Ingrid Kathleen Hickey of Syracuse, NY, and one great grandson, Patrick Boatman of Cookeville.

Mrs. Hickey is additionally survived by a niece Laura Hope (Gill) Johnson of Pike Road, Ala., and three great nephews William Connor Lee (Belle), Nicholas Andrew Lee and Kenneth Gill Johnson of Pike Road, Ala., a great niece Ashley Hope (Johnson) Greene and Husband (Wyatt) of Fort Moore, Ga.

Mrs. Hickey was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law William Arthur and Linda Joyce (Parks) Gill of Collierville.

The family will have a private memorial service. Burial will be in the Mt. George Cemetery, Mt. George, Ark.; Mrs. Hickey’s family cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Compassus Hospice Care (931-455-9118), the American Cancer Association or the American Lung Association.

The family would also like to thank the caregivers from Compassus, Vanderbilt Tullahoma – Harton Hospital and Life Care Center in Tullahoma.
