A 51-year-old man faces solicitation of a minor charges for allegedly trying to convince a 17-year-old to have sex with him.

The suspect, James Edward Longwith, was charged with solicitation of a person under 18 years of age after Tullahoma police did a forensic examination of their phones after the suspect claimed he did not realize the girl was underage when he propositioned her. Police were alerted the situation by the victim’s father who told them his underage daughter had been involved in “inappropriate conversations via text” prompting lawmen to confront Longwith with the allegations.

“He stated he did not know she was 17-years-old until the day prior,” the warrant revealed.

Officers seized both his phone and the girl’s phone and searched their conversations.

“Mr. Longwith engaged in sexual conversation with her including asking her to have sex with him … after knowing she was a minor,” police maintained on the warrant.

Police also say he solicited inappropriate pictures of the girl and sent a picture of a body part to her. It was also determined that the girl had allegedly smoked marijuana with Longwith.
