Hazardous waste disposal event Sept. 21

The city of Tullahoma is holding a household hazardous waste event on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tullahoma Public Works Department at 942 Maplewood Avenue.

The free event give residents a chance to dispose of household chemicals, garden products and automotive materials. There is a long list of acceptable items available on the City of Tullahoma government website. The shorter list is things that will not be accepted. Those include medical or infectious waste except for needles and sharps in puncture-proof containers. No explosives or ammunition will be accepted. Radioactive waste including smoke detectors will be accepted.

As a side note, oil based paint and electronics are accepted every Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Solid Waste Department at 2180 Murfreesboro Highway, Manchester. Waste from non-household sources like businesses, farms, schools and churches will be accepted by appointment only by calling 615-643-3170.
