Alderman Jerry Mathis has been elected Tullahoma Mayor Pro-Tem, defeating fellow alderman Kurt Glick in a 6-1 vote of the Board of Tullahoma Mayor and Aldermen.
Mathis actually garnered Glick’s vote in the election for the city’s second-in-command who will serve as the next in line to newly elected Mayor Lynn Sebourn. Glick was also the alderman who nominated Mathis for Pro-Tem. Glick was nominated by Alderman Bobbie Wilson who voted for Glick during the election for the position.
The board of mayor and aldermen in Tullahoma normally elects a new Mayor Pro-Tem each year. Mathis has served as Pro-Tem in past years as he is a veteran member of the city council.
The election came after Mayor Sebourn made board liaison appointments. Newly elected Alderman Matthew Bird was assigned to the Airport, Industrial and Arts committees. Fellow freshman Alderman Busch Thoma was assigned to Tullahoma Utilities Authority and Downtown committees. Newly elected Alderman Sernobia McGee was assigned to Tullahoma City Schools Board of Education and Housing liaison. She was also voted in as a BoMA representative to the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. She was victorious in 4-3 in a city council vote against Bobbie Wilson after Glick stepped out of the race after being nominated.
Bobbie Wilson will be 911 Communications and Go Green Tullahoma liaison while Glick will be working with the Industrial and Tourism boards as his assignment. Mayor Sebourn placed himself on the Planning Commission. Mathis, in addition to being Mayor Pro-Tem, was assigned to be liaison to the Tree Board and Sports Council.
