Former Decherd Alderman Justin Stubblefield’s case has been bound over to Circuit Court where he has been scheduled to appear on Nov. 18.

The cases for Stubblefield and his wife, Paige Stubblefield, who were both arrested on July 9 on charges of conspiring to distribute oxycodone, stemming from a recent investigation, were heard in General Sessions Court on Sept. 12, and both were bound over to Circuit Court, according to court records.

The Stubblefields have been charged with felonies in connection with the case, and General Sessions Court only handles misdemeanors.

The Stubblefields have been released from jail by each posting bond.

Bond for each was set at $150,000, according to Franklin County Jail reports.

Justin Stubblefield, who had resigned from his position as alderman, was also charged with laundering money, reports said.

He was released on July 11, posting $15,000 through a bail bondsman, while Mrs. Stubblefield was released on a property bond, according to jail records.

The Decherd Board of Mayor and Aldermen held its regular monthly meeting on July 9. However, Stubblefield did not attend, and he and Mrs. Stubblefield were arrested at another location at about 8 p.m. by 12th Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime Task Force officers.

Twelfth Judicial District Attorney Gen. Courtney Lynch’s office issued a press release stating that the investigation stemmed from an April 21, 2022, case involving the overdose deaths of William Horton and Myles Kincaid.

The press release said that the DTF probe began after Decherd police investigators uncovered new evidence in the case resulting in the charges against Mr. and Mrs. Stubblefield.

“The investigation into the overdose deaths of William Horton and Myles Kincaid will continue with the goal of charging those responsible with their deaths of second-degree murder,” the press release said.
