Shirley Lawson Moore Obituary
Shirley Lawson Moore, 89, passed from this earth on Sept. 25, 2024, after a brief illness. Shirley, a native of Tullahoma, was born to Thomas Brown Lawson and Margaret Johnson Lawson. She grew up spending many years playing in her parent’s hardware store, Lawson’s Hardware. Shirley graduated in 1953 from Tullahoma High School and attended Middle Tennessee State College. She married one of her brother’s best friend, John “Robert” Gray whom she had known most of her life. In her early married years, she was very involved in civic activities including the Tullahoma Civic Council, Junior Woman’s Club, Tullahoma Recreation Department and served as president of South Jackson Civic Center for many years. She was volunteer patient advocate at Harton Hospital. She also served as an honorary city alderman.
After the early loss Robert, Shirley later met and married Douglas Moore, the brother of a longtime friend. They spent time traveling and loved UT sports during their marriage of over 20 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Lawson, her sister, Mildred Lawson Barfield, brothers, Thomas R. Lawson, Raymon Lawson and husbands, Robert Gray and Doug Moore.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Sharon Gray (Greg) Waller, son, Robert “Alan” Gray, grandchildren, Brandon Waller (Beth) and Evan Waller. Also, grandchildren, Hannah Waller, Grayson Waller and Hadley Kate Waller as well as two nieces and a nephew.
