City leaf season begins in November

With the fall season underway, the Tullahoma Public Works Department have announced the upcoming schedule for leaf pickup.

According to Public Works Director Butch Taylor, The Tullahoma Public Works Department will begin the leaf pickup for the season on Monday, Nov. 4. A leaf route schedule can be viewed here.

“Residents can monitor our progress daily as the streets are completed,” city officials said. “There will be at least three rounds in each area. Residents are encouraged to rake their leaves curbside as soon as possible. Leaves should not be raked into the ditch or street due to flooding and safety issues.”

The public works department also shared the following tips:

• Do not place your leaves more than five feet from the curb or shoulder unless there is a ditch

• Do not block storm drain inlets. It may cause flooding.

• Do not mix brush, tree limbs, stumps, metal, lumber or any other debris with the leaves. This may injure our employees and damage the equipment.

• In order to progress as quickly as possible, the crews will not be able to go back to areas to pick up leaves placed behind them.

Last season, the city of Tullahoma collected over 1,500 tons of leaves, and officials ask residents to watch for the crews, slow down and be cautious.

A faster option for some residents may be to rake and bag their own leaves in biodegradable bags offered by the city or sold at various retail stores. Once the resident has the leaves bagged and placed at the curb, they can call Public Works at 931-454-1768 to be placed on the pickup list. The biodegradable bags will usually be picked up within three work days.

Residents who would like to bag their own leaves may purchase the green bags at City Hall, located at 201 W. Grundy St.
