West Middle splits games at Westwood

West Middle School’s basketball teams went to Manchester to face Westwood Middle Thursday night, the Lady ‘Cats fell 42-35 while the Bobcats staved off a comeback to win 47-39.

The Lady Bobcats made a run in the fourth quarter scoring 16, but the comeback effort came up short. They went 8-of-14 from the foul line, hitting 6-of-10 in the fourth.

West was led in scoring by Shekinah Miller with 12 points. Adilynn Tuten was second in points with 9, Joslynn Lidstrom had 7, Ashleigh Johnson 3, Claire Hyden and Izzy Abston had two points each. Lidstrom knocked in the only 3-pointer for the Lady Bobcats in the third quarter.

Westwood was led in scoring by Jerzee Ferrell with 20 points. No other Lady Rocket had double-digits.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 32-6 halftime lead, but the Rockets came back scoring 33 second half points. West was held to just 15 second half points, 7 in the fourth. The ‘Cats went 5-of-12 from the free throw line, they went 3-of-10 in the fourth keeping Westwood’s comeback alive.

Cooper Knight led the team in scoring with 16 points as he made four 3-pointers in the second quarter. Price Harden was next in points with 9. Colby Shepherd had 7, all in the first quarter including a 3. Lincoln Bitton had 5, making a 3 in the second quarter. Javion Sheffield scored 4 third quarter points. Ryland Sullivan, Kyle Tipps and Luke Hyden each had 2 points. 

Isiah Buchanan led Westwood with 19 points as the only Rocket in double figures. He scored all of his points in the second half and made five 3-pointers.

West will be home for their next matchup on Monday when they host Coffee County. The girls’ varsity game will tipoff at 6 p.m.
