Stop stealing political signs
In recent weeks, our community has witnessed a disturbing trend that strikes at the heart of our democratic values. Political signs supporting Harris Walz have vanished from yards and public spaces across our county, leaving a conspicuous void in the landscape of political discourse.
Political signs are a vital form of expression; they are the physical embodiment of our constitutional right to free speech. Each sign represents a voice, a belief, and a hope for the future of our nation. Stealing these signs is not just property being taken—it is an attempt to silence differing opinions.
Those who claim to champion law and order are now mocking these very ideals through acts of petty theft and vandalism. The irony is palpable. How can one proclaim to be a defender of the Constitution while simultaneously trampling on its First Amendment protections?
This is not just a violation of property; it’s an assault on the very fabric of our community and the trust we place in one another. Every stolen sign represents a citizen whose right to express their political beliefs has been violated. It’s a chilling reminder that some would rather suppress opposing viewpoints than engage in meaningful dialogue. This behavior doesn’t just affect individual property owners; it erodes the foundation of our democratic society.
To those engaging in these acts: Consider the impact of your actions. You may remove a sign, but you cannot erase the convictions it represents. Each sign you take only strengthens our resolve to make our voices heard. Your acts of cowardice and intolerance will not silence us, but rather reinforce our commitment to defend our democracy. Remember, the right to free speech is not a partisan issue—it’s an American value. You can steal our signs, but you cannot steal our vote.
