Lady Wildcats extend win streak

The Tullahoma girls’ basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend, beating Battle Creek 69-15 and then beating Macon County 59-34. They have already garnered as many wins this season as they did in late December of their 2023-2024 campaign, where they started off their season 3-7. The present ‘Cats in their 2024-2025 are rolling with an undefeated record of 3-0, and their junior guard, McLayne Bobo, has been a big part of their early season success.

“I think McLayne Bobo has taken her game up another notch, and I think she has taken her leadership up another notch,” head coach of Tullahoma Chad Hibdon said regarding Bobo as a player in a preseason interview.

Bobo through her first three games has scored 17, 23, and 28—scoring both 20-pieces over the weekend. Her impressive play has caught the eyes of others, landing her name on The Basketball Coaches of Tennessee Girls Division 1- Class AAA watch list—the list is compiled of impressive players in 3A regions in TN.

Bobo’s play has undoubtedly contributed mightily to their impressive start, but many other factors have also helped them.

After allowing 42 points on opening night to Oakland, the ‘Cats allowed a total of just 49 points in their two games against the Bears and Tigers. Their tenacity on defense which they have shown thus far, melds well with their strengths on offense.

They have multiple players comfortable in running in transition, and good defense often results in turnovers which lead to these opportunities. The combination of the two feats can then lead to leads in games snowballing quickly, which they showed over the weekend—winning by an average of 39.5 points.

It has been a dream start so far for the ‘Cats and they will look to continue to mark down more “W’s” on their schedule, with games against Battle Ground Academy and Girls Preparatory School this week.
