Christmas in Lynchburg plans day full of festivities

Saturday’s annual Christmas in Lynchburg promises to be a day full of fun events and activities. There is sure to be something for everyone.

The day starts at 7 a.m. with check in for the 5K Fun Run/Walk, lining up at the Moorehead Pavilion in Lynchburg Park. Proceeds benefit the Moore County Resource Center, who manages the Angel Tree. Last year the program served over sixty five families, for one hundred sixty children.

Whether running, walking, or just watching, all of that exercise is bound to whet an appetite. MCHS seniors can take care of that with their Breakfast with Santa. Head on over to the Ferris Creek Lodge#509 F&AM at 101 Main Street between 8 and 11 a.m. to get breakfast, have pictures made with Santa, warm up, and help out the MCHS seniors with their Project Graduation 2025.

After breakfast, peruse the decorated Christmas trees at the IBIS building and donate to your favorite.  The contest is another creative idea from the MCHS seniors, and proceeds will benefit Project Graduation 2025. There is also a silent auction, with gift baskets suitable for gift giving. Winners will be announced later in the day.

While at the IBIS building, check inside for silent auctions. Mrs. Nancy’s Christmas cookies are up for auction from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with proceeds going to Moore County Family Community Education for community projects. At 2 p.m. there will be a silent auction of Christmas wreaths, with proceeds going to Moore County Resource Center for their Stocking Stuffer program.

Meredith Burton will do a Christmas reading at 10:30 a.m.

Pets are included in the activities as well. The Friends of Animals is hosting Pet Photos with Santa from 11 a.m. until noon at the gazebo. It could be interesting to see want they want Santa to bring them!

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. the Moore County Senior Center is conducting their annual fundraiser. It features Former Master Distiller Jimmy Bradford’s Family Famous Chili. The menu includes chili, Frito chili pie, hot dogs, chili dogs, banana pudding and cookies. They will be located at the county building. Sounds like a great idea for lunch. They will also be holding their craft fair as well. Proceeds support the Moore County Senior Center.

In addition to all of the above, there will be various vendors with their wares stationed around town. They will open at 10 a.m. The Chamber of Commerce will have their poinsettias on sale as well. Merchants on the square will be open for business, making it a great day for browsing and buying.

There will be music and dancing to add to the celebration, with a bell choir at 10 a.m., Mid State Cloggers at 12:15 p.m., Caitlyn Wolaver Christmas music at 1 p.m., and country music artist Sam Grow at 4 p.m.

The theme of the Chamber’s Christmas Parade this year is “Lights Over Lynchburg.” Line up and judging begins at 4 p.m. at Wiseman Park, and the parade begins at 5 p.m. Santa, of course, is the guest of honor.

The Barrel Tree lighting will wrap up the festivities at 6:15 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7 in Lynchburg has all you could ask for to start of the Christmas season in great spirits. There will be plenty of food and fun for all ages, numerous gift buying choices, and many worthy causes to support. A good night’s sleep on Friday and comfortable shoes on Saturday are highly recommended.
