The win streak continues for the Tullahoma boys’ basketball team, as they beat rival Coffee County Thursday night 43-39, extending their win streak to five.
Xavier Farrell has led the Wildcats in the scoring department all year, and Thursday night was no different. Farrell finished as the game’s leading scorer with 19, eight of which came in a vital fourth quarter when they trailed the Red Raiders 29-26. Farrell’s consistent scoring has been a weapon all of this year. In close games and when the head coach of Tullahoma, Jason Welch, needs someone to close out a game, the ball is almost always in Farrell’s hands, and he hasn’t disappointed, with a 5-1 record to prove that.
Khani Johnson had another double-digit scoring performance, scoring 10 against the Red Raiders, following his 14-point performance against Shelbyville. Johnson brings a calming presence to the Wildcats’ backcourt, as he is extremely good at controlling the pace of the game, no matter what defense opposing teams throws at him.
The 6’9’’ big man Austin Tinnon for the Wildcats, has started to come into his own in the Wildcats’ last couple of games. Fouls hindered Tinnon early on in the year in some games, as he got called for ticky-tack fouls, but as of recently, he has started to clean this up. This was prevalent in Tullahoma’s game against Shelbyville. He blocked shots and contested shots without warranting a whistle from any of the officials against the Eagles, and was also a contributor offensively scoring six points. The junior big against Coffee County scored six points again and garnered only two fouls. The big man’s play will be crucial come tournament ball later this year, as the competition will only get harder and the players will only get bigger.
Tullahoma will look to extend their win streak to six when they take on Rockvale on Dec. 10.
