Lulu’s Cafe in Estill hosts free Christmas dinner Dec. 23
Matthew and Gloria Sfirakis, owners of Lulu’s Cafe Restaurant, 204 South Main Street in Estill Springs, have announced their free Christmas meal for Monday, Dec. 23. This will be the second year Lulu’s and the Sfirakis’ have hosted the community event. Last year, over 800 meals were served to first responders, less fortunate, sick, elderly, or just people who were alone during the Christmas season.
The meal will consist of ham, vegetables, bread and dessert and are available dine-in, carry-out, or delivery. Delivery is made possible through volunteers and within a 20 mile radius of the restaurant. For meal delivery, contact the restaurant at 931-649-3933. Dine-in and carry-out will be available after 3 p.m. on the 23rd.
According to Matthew Sfirakis, “We host this community event to spread hope and joy one meal at a time to anyone who needs a meal that day.”
Volunteers are an integral part of the success of the Christmas meals.
“If it weren’t for the volunteers, I don’t know how we could pull off an event like this. The volunteers help serve, cook, clean-up and deliver,” according to Gloria Sfirakis.
“We do this to give back to the community. This time of year can be a financial burden and stressful for some families. Parents sometimes struggle to provide for their children. Our hope is that this meal helps lessen their stress. I’m thankful we have this platform to make a difference,” offered Matthew.
“There are a lot of elderly people, and not-so-elderly who cannot cook or drive. So for us to be able to deliver meals to them to enjoy is so rewarding. There are also people who might be more than capable of providing their own meal but perhaps don’t have friends or family nearby to celebrate the holidays with, so they can come dine with us and meet new friends.”
“Our wedding anniversary is the 23rd of December and we thought there would be no better way to celebrate than helping others out who are in need during the Christmas holiday season,” added both of the Sfirakis’.
