Lady Wildcats fall to Lady Eagles

The Lady Wildcats fell to Shelbyville on Dec. 17, by a score of 46-41.

A second and third-quarter surge from the Lady Eagles was all of the gap that they needed to get their revenge on Tullahoma. The Lady Wildcats’ last win, since dropping four straight games, was against the Lady Eagles on Dec. 3 where they won 44-29.

Shelbyville outscored the Lady Wildcats in the second and third quarter Shelbyville in their recent matchup, 28-17. The Lady Eagles’ offensive attack was amped up by Lanaya Young, who scored 15 points in the two quarters and finished with a game-high 22 points.

McLayne Bobo had a positive performance against the Lady Eagles scoring a team-high 16 points for the Lady Wildcats. The junior keyed in on one of her strong suits in the game—attacking the rim. When Bobo gets downhill she is awfully hard to stop and if she doesn’t make her short attempt when running at the basket, she often finds herself at the line as a result of her aggression. The Tullahoma junior generated a total of 12 free throws in the contest.

It’s been harder for Bobo to navigate and get to her preferred skill set as the season has gone on. Opponents now have more games to watch and study her play and see how they can prepare to guard her. Bobo’s performance against the Lady Eagles showed that despite the adjustments teams have made against her, she is still capable of having a major impact on games, and will continue to do so as the Lady Wildcats dive deeper into the season.

The 2024-2025 season so far for the Lady Wildcats is extremely comparable to their schedule from their 2023-2024 season. In December of the 2023-2024 season, Tullahoma also went on a four-game slide—losing to Coffee County twice, losing to Rockvale, and then losing to Lincoln County. All of these teams are marked down as losses in the team’s current four-game downward streak.

The Lady Wildcats in the 2023-2024 season went on to compete in the district championship. This just goes to show it’s been a tough stretch of games for the ‘Cats, but they can still turn it around.
