Three Point Frenzy Fuels Lady Wildcats win over Lawrence

The Tullahoma girls’ basketball team after dropping a game against Lincoln County on Jan. 18 bounced back against Lawrence County on the 21st—winning the matchup 50-44.
The three-point line can make or break virtually almost any basketball game, and the Lady Wildcats shooting from deep was all of the difference in their game against Lawrence. Tullahoma made a total of 11 threes in the contest, compared to Lawrence County’s four, and the ‘Cats sharpshooting in the second and third periods is where they ultimately separated themselves. Tullahoma outscored Lawrence 29 to 16 in the two quarters and scored eight of their 11 threes during the stretch.
“When we have good spacing, move the ball quickly, and make the next right decision with the ball we create good shot opportunities,” Tullahoma’s coach said regarding his team’s three-point shooting.
“Our players are gaining confidence by putting in extra shooting which is where confidence comes from, the extra work.”
Addison Vincent made a three, Isabella Lidstrom made two threes, and Lizzy Sharpton made three threes for the ‘Cats. Everyone was feeling their shot from distance, but one player for Tullahoma was looking at the basket as if it were an ocean. That player being no other than junior guard for Tullahoma McLayne Bobo.
Bobo finished the contest with a game-high 27 points and a game-high five threes.
“McLayne is a dynamic scorer and when she is efficient from the 3pt line it creates a lot of pressure on the defense which opens our offense up tremendously.”
Bobo put her three-point barrage on full display in the second quarter. She scored back-to-back threes following a three from Sharpton, giving the ‘Cats, a quick 9-0 burst, in a quarter they outscored Lawrence 17-3. Following the run from her and Sharpton, she knocked down another long ball, which then gave herself three straight makes from distance in the period.
Bobo’s game is dynamic as coach Hibdon mentioned, and she gives teams a lot to think about on a nightly basis. However, if she is making her threes, for most teams that will give them too much to think about.
The Cats’ will look to continue their sharp shooting in their next matchup against Franklin County on Jan. 24.
