With a win over Community High School 56-24, Cascade High School 59-17, and a shutout win over Franklin County High School 78-0, the Tullahoma wrestling team is the Division 1 Class A District 9 Dual Meet champs. This team has shown time and time again this year that they are special, and now they have the hardware to prove it.
In their win over Community High School, the Wildcats only lost two matches. They then won the 12 other matches, with seven of them coming by way of pins. Lane Johnson, Sylas McGowen, Jordan Frye, Kiivon Butler, Bradley Goodwin, Lucas Willette, and Nolan Stroop were responsible for the pins.
In their win against Cascade High School, the Wildcats rolled off seven straight wins and gained the momentum of the match. They then dropped two matches but came back and finished strong, following the two losses with three straight wins.
Against Franklin County Tullahoma had 10 wins by pins, with one of them coming from junior Corbin Avans. Avans is having a remarkable season posting a 23-3 record, following his stud season last year, where he finished as the state runner-up finish at 150 pounds in the Class A State Tournament.
Avan’s success has landed him as a nominee for the Nashville area boys wrestler of the year. He will look to add to his already impressive resume from this year, when he and the rest of the Wildcats wrestling team travel to Marshall County on Jan. 23, to compete in the Regional Dual Tournament.
