Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the scene of a house fire in Estill Springs Friday, Feb. 7, where they rescued a person trapped in the residence.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, a structure fire was reported Friday at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Oak Hill Drive in Estill Springs. Both the sheriff’s office and the Estill Springs Police Department responded to the scene, alongside members of the Estill Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Capitol Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Decherd Fire Department.

While the house was engulfed in flames, firemen Lt. Christian Steele and Richard Axt entered the residence, and located a person who was trapped in the residence.

“Fireman Taylor Herrera and Fireman Craig Martin entered the residence to assist in the extrication of the victim,” the sheriff’s department said. “The firemen inside the residence, with firemen and law enforcement on the outside of the residence, were able to use a ladder to extricate the unconscious victim through a window.”

The victim was transported to Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital. A juvenile was able to exit the residence before it became fully engulfed.

The sheriff’s office added a firefighter was also injured when the floor of the structure collapsed. The firefighter was transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Winchester.

“We would like to recognize Lt. Steele, Fireman Axt, Fireman Herrera, Fireman Martin, Patrolman Clint Grant, and Captain Seth Isbell for the bravery they displayed while rescuing the victim from the residence,” the sheriff’s department said.

The department also thanked the following fire departments for responding to the structure fire: Estill Springs Volunteer Fire Department; Capitol Hill Volunteer Fire Department; Decherd Fire Department; Winchester Fire Department; North Franklin County Volunteer Fire Department; and the Tullahoma Fire Department.
