Bralynn Clinton named a Tennessee All-State Theatre member

Tullahoma is home to several star students, whether that is in the classroom, in music, athletics, or, as the high school recently learned, on stage, as sophomore Bralynn Clinton was announced as an All-State Theatre selection.

“This is probably my biggest accomplishment,” Clinton excitedly said. “I am extremely proud of myself for making it as a part of the All-State Theatre, especially as a sophomore.”

For her All-State audition, Clinton prepared a short monologue from a play called Treat Me Nice. In her monologue, Clinton plays the lead role of Corrine, who is speaking to her sickly mother, who is on her deathbed. Clinton said she spent a lot of time working with THS Theatre Teacher Benjamin Spurlock to ensure she was ready for her performance.

“I put a lot of effort into this audition,” Clinton said. “I cannot thank Mr. Spurlock enough for his help. He was fantastic with helping me get into character, help me with the lines, what I was talking about, and what my surroundings are, and I am extremely thankful to him for that.”

Her theatre teacher stated it was a joy to help Clinton with her audition and congratulated her for her success.

“This is an incredible achievement,” Spurlock said. “This honor means that Bralynn placed in the top 10 percent of all acting students who auditioned for All-State this year. We are so proud of Bralynn for her hard work and dedication.”

After her successful audition, Clinton will get to perform her monologue at the All-State Theatre Conference later this month. She and the other All-State cast members will perform on Feb. 22 at Stewarts Creek High School.

“I can’t wait to perform at the All-State Conference,” Clinton said. “There are definitely some nerves, but I’m also thrilled and excited. I’ve put so much effort into this audition, and I cannot wait for other people to see it.”

Clinton started her theater career as a freshman and played The White Rabbit in the high school’s version of Alice In Wonderland. Clinton has a more prominent role this spring, as she will star as Sophie Sheridan when THS brings Mama Mia to the stage in April.

“I’ve been having so much fun with Mama Mia,” Clinton said. “I love our cast so much. Everybody has been so sweet and adoring, and I am just so happy to be able to play Sophie, who is this awesome, awkward and fun-loving girl.”

TCS Director of Schools, Dr. Catherine Stephens, congratulated Clinton and noted that she looks forward to seeing Clinton perform in Mama Mia this spring.

“Our fine arts programs in TCS continually amaze me,” Dr. Stephens said. “We’ve had students named to the All-State Band, Choir, and now All-State Theatre. This is an incredible honor for Bralynn, showing how devoted she is to theater. I cannot wait for Mama Mia to open in April.”

Tullahoma High School will debut Mama Mia on April 24, and it will run until April 27. Though the play is over two months away, those wanting to go ahead and purchase their tickets can do so by visiting the website.
