Take Captive
K
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5. I cannot be alone in allowing the enemy to infiltrate my mind with lies and fears that consume and cause a crippling effect that commands constant attention. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy every good thing that God places in our lives: however, his main objective is to steal your faith. When the 2 a.m. lies come and you are caught between rest and restlessness I want you to make time to take captive those thoughts that are keeping you from God’s best. How do you take captive those thoughts?
First, you must be in tune with what God’s truth states. God says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, God desires for His children to prosper and be in good health and by His stripes, we are healed. There are so many encouraging words of truth that you need to put in your weapon bag that can be used when the enemy comes. The words we speak during the battle have a significant impact on our ability to heal and bring victory. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12. It is naive to believe that these attacks won’t come. I would encourage you to begin putting into practice the intentional speaking of God’s word over your life and learn how to take captive the thoughts that paralyze you during the biggest battle of the mind.
- Make sure you are thinking about what YOU want to think about. That sounds super simple, but staying positive can be very hard. We allow our minds to run rampant, but we must realize that not every thought is true or positive.
- Once the battle begins, focus on that thought that is causing fear, sadness, depression or anxiety. This is the moment you capture that thought and pull it aside in your mind.
- Now it is time to test your thought. Read Philippians 4:8, does the thought align with the text of God’s infallible word?
- The last and most imperative decision you will need to make is “What am I going to do with this thought?” If you recognize that it is a lie from the pits of hell then cast it out! You don’t have to continue entertaining the enemy – put him in his place and do it over and over again!
When you begin to take captive your thoughts it simply means to gain control over your thought life to insure it aligns with God’s truth and righteousness. Using God’s power will bring a freedom on the battlefield you have been longing to have for quite some time.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4.
