Friends of Short Springs hold work day

The Friends of Short Springs hosted its first workday of the year this past Saturday. A group of around 20 volunteers from the Tullahoma and area communities came out to help.

Directed by Ranger Marlie Gibbs from Old Stone Fort State Park, the group installed split-rail fencing near Busby Falls to protect a slope from off-trail hiking. Another task, as a part of a grant-funded recycling program, was to clear trash and debris from an area near Short Springs Road. Hidden under the cover of leaves were, among other items, glass jars, electrical cable, an old rubber pool liner, metal drum lids, and the metal spring remains of an old car seat. The next workday will be Saturday May 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. See Friends of Short Springs Facebook page for updates.
