City announces road closure and paving schedule
S
City officials have announced that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be closing the roadway at Wilson Avenue and Big Spring Avenue for a week, as well as the paving schedule of several roads.
“There will be a TDOT road closure on Big Springs Avenue between Wilson Avenue (Hwy 55) and the entrance to Frazier McEwen Park/Grider Stadium beginning Friday, March 14 to install a new storm drain pipe,” city officials said.
In the statement, city officials assured residents that through traffic on Wilson Avenue (Hwy 55) will remain unaffected, and Frazier McEwen Park/Grider Stadium will remain accessible by turning onto Big Springs Avenue off of North Jackson Street.
“We request that through-traffic avoid using the adjacent Craft Lane during this time,” the statement read.
The closure will be taking place over the Tullahoma City School’s spring break to have the least impact on normal traffic flows. The closure will also not affect access to Frazier McEwen Park, the Rocket Park Playground or to Grider Stadium.
“All facilities will remain open during this process,” city officials said. “However, please drive carefully around the area due to the temporary change in traffic pattern.”
Big Springs Avenue is expected to be re-opened by Monday, March 24 when Tullahoma High School students return to school following spring break.
In addition, the city released a list of schedule paving projects that residents will see starting up soon.
“You will notice some milling and paving going on over the next month around town as road resurfacing begins,” city officials said. “These are not in any particular order and note that they can be affected or delayed by weather events.”
The list of scheduled paving projects are as follows:
– East Grizzard Strett (from N. Anderson St to N. College St)
– East Moore Street (from North Anderson Street to North College Street)
– Hardison Street (from Country Club Drive to North College Street)
– Jerry Street (from East Lincoln Street to East Grundy Street)
– Edgewood Drive (from Greenwood Avenue to Bragg Circle)
– West Lincoln Street (from North Jackson Street to Cedar Lane)
– West Warren Street (from North Jackson Street to Atlantic Street)
– Powell Road (from Short Springs Road to the city limits)
City officials advise residents to use caution on their driving routes around these areas when workers and paving equipment are present.
