Bel-Aire Elementary School named 2025 TAA ARSPA School of Merit

Bel-Aire Elementary School was one of two elementary schools from across the state of Tennessee to be recently named a 2025 Tennessee Arts Academy (TAA) Arts Rich Schools Program and Awards (ARSPA) School of Merit.

“I have always known that Bel-Aire was a special place to be a fine arts educator,” said TCS Fine Arts Coordinator and Bel-Aire Music Teacher Sarah McVey. “We consistently prioritize arts education, and we have the unwavering support of our teachers and administrators in what we do daily. It is beyond exciting that an organization like Tennessee Arts Academy has recognized our school as a School of Merit in the arts. This is the first time a school in Tullahoma City Schools has been recognized with this designation, and I am so proud that it was Bel-Aire Elementary.”

The TAA Foundation Board of Directors seeks to celebrate and recognize innovative and resourceful schools that provide arts-rich educational curricula and programming for their students and the communities in which they live. Bel-Aire was one of 10 schools to be named a School of Merit. From these Schools of Merits, one school from each level – elementary, middle and high school – will be selected as the TAA Arts Rich School of the Year, which will be announced in May.

“Being selected as a Tennessee Arts Academy Arts Rich Schools Program and Awards School of Merit is an incredible honor, and it highlights the exceptional things taking place at Bel-Aire Elementary School,” said Bel-Aire Principal Dr. Clint Epley. “If you have been to Bel-Aire, you can see the impact that our fine arts programs have on our school. From art teacher Kyle Nagle’s immersive and innovative art displays or even through Mrs. McVey’s fun and lively music classes – the impact these programs have is profound.”

Bel-Aire and Rozelle Elementary School for the Creative & Performing Arts were the only two elementary schools named a TAA ARSPA School of Merit. The remaining 2025 Schools of Merit list includes Arlington High School, Briarcrest Christian School, Collierville High School, Fred J. Page High School, Lakeland Prep High School, Nolensville High School, South Doyle Middle School and Wright Middle School.

“Fine arts programs play a crucial role in the education and life of a student,” said TCS Director of Schools Dr. Catherine Stephens. “Whether that is through music, visual arts, theater, or more, these programs help provide an enriched education for our students. Bel-Aire Elementary School is incredibly deserving of being named a TAA ARSPA School of Merit, and I am proud of them and all of our fine arts programs across the district.”
