Special Olympic athletes make splash in swimming events

Saturday, April 12 was a shining example of what makes Area 13 truly special. The day began with a successful Tip-A-Cop fundraiser hosted by local law enforcement at Damron’s Restaurant in Tullahoma. The event raised over $3,000 for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), bringing officers, athletes, and the community together in support of a meaningful cause.

Later that day, Area 13 athletes showcased their talents at a regional aquatics competition held at Ensworth in Nashville. Coached by Bethany McKee and Becky Behrendorff, the following athletes proudly represented Area 13:

•     Carson Rogers – 25 Freestyle, 25 Backstroke

•     Jaxx Jones – 25 Freestyle

•     Holden Hatcher – 25 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle

•     D’Angelo Brown – 25 Freestyle

•     Paul Casteel – 25 Breaststroke, 25 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle

“Their dedication and performance truly exemplified the spirit of the Special Olympics,” said volunteer Susan Carr.

Tip-A-Cop events are fun, community-centered fundraisers where local law enforcement officers serve as “celebrity waiters,” collecting tips as donations to benefit Special Olympics. In addition to serving meals, officers share the mission and impact of the Special Olympics with guests, building strong community relationships.
