Tullahoma athletic alumni shine at the collegiate level

Former Lady Wildcat basketball player Nyjah Gibbs, and former runner on the Tullahoma track and field team, Grant Allen, are both excelling at the collegiate level.

Grant Allen

Allen, a 2023 Tullahoma graduate, put up a dominant performance on March 28 for his college, Trevecca University (a Division II school). He and three of his teammates–Julius Turnipseed III, Dayton Floyd, and Zion Griffin—competed at the UAB Spring Invitational in a 4×100 relay. Out of the eight teams that competed, the Trevecca Trojans relay team that Allen was on placed fourth.

The time they submitted was a 41.90a finish, which marked the best time in an outdoor 4×100 relay in school history. The time was also the fifth fastest in Trevcca’s conference this season as well as the 50th fastest time this season at the Division II level.

Allen and his record-setting relay team will compete again at DII Gulf South Conference Championship May 1-3 at Lee University.

Nyjah Gibbs

Gibbs, a 2024 Tullahoma graduate, finished her first season on the Walters State Community College women’s basketball team.

The freshman forward over the Lady Cougars’ 31-game season averaged 7.4 points per game. She also brought what she did from her days at THS to the collegiate level in women’s basketball, rebounding. She racked in a total of 241 rebounds, with 90 of them being offensive, averaging out to a team-high 7.8 rebounds a game.

Gibbs and the Lady Cougars ended the season with a 25-6 record and finished first in their conference with a 19-1 record. Their season this year ended in the first round of the NJCAA DI Women’s Basketball Championship, losing 75-59 to Kilgore College.
