South Jackson expands parking area

South Jackson Performing Arts Center hopes to have more parking for its events this summer as a parking lot expansion is on the way.
According to SJPAC President Greg Gressel, dirt work is being done presently in preparation for the paving of a new section of parking lot on the opposite side of the current parking area near the Board of Education. The expansion comes to help accommodate those attending the many events that are held in and around the South Jackson campus. In recent years the current parking facilities have not been enough to hold some of the bigger crowds, therefore it was decided to provide the extra parking.
Along with adding over 50 parking places, Gressel said the project will also include lighting on that said of the building.
“It’s presently very dark over on that side opposite the existing parking area,” Gressel said. “When the new parking area is built that will also come with lighting on that side.”
The work is a continuation of the 2019 project to improve the parking facilities at South Jackson. As for when the new parking will be available, Gressel is hoping for this summer but construction will depend on the weather.
