Multiple TCS athletes and teams gear up for Spring Flings

Several Tullahoma athletes will participate in state championships beginning tomorrow, May 17, and into next week as part of the TSSAA and TMSAA Spring Fling.

The East and West Middle School track and field teams will open the week by traveling to Clarksville to take part in the TMSAA State Championships at Austin Peay State University on Saturday, May 17. Field events begin at 9 a.m., with running events starting at 2:30 p.m.

In the girls’ competitions, West Middle School’s Camdyn Edwards will compete in the high jump, while teammate ShaNell Beechum will take part in the shot put. West’s Ashleigh Johnson will also run in two races, the 1,600-meter and 800 runs. East Middle School’s Makayla Murray will compete in the long jump.

West Middle School has three boys taking part in four events on Saturday. Price Harden will compete in both the discus and shot put, while Lincoln Bitton will run the 1,600 race and Jake Raby will take part in the 800. East Middle School’s Brody McShea will compete in the high jump, while teammate Julius Jones will take part in the long jump.

On Tuesday, the Tullahoma High School track and field teams will send seven athletes to compete at the TSSAA State Championships at MTSU. Field events begin at 9 a.m., and running events start at 4 p.m. Will Hyden will compete in the shot put. Brindley Duncan will race in the 800 run, while Ella Miller will compete in the 100 hurdles. The Wildcats will also have a 4×200 relay team, as Logan Prosser, Jakoby Hill, Khani Johnson, and Andrew Ewing will combine to run that race.

Prior to Tuesday, the THS track and field teams had three athletes compete in the TSSAA State Decathlon or Pentathlon this week at Kirkwood High School. Ella Miller made the podium on Wednesday after finishing seventh in the TSSAA State Pentathlon. Xavier Farrell took ninth in the TSSAA State Decathlon on Thursday, and teammate Lucas Willette finished 10th in the same competition.

On the baseball diamond, Tullahoma will open its state tournament run at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when it faces the winner of the Hardin County and White House series at Blackman High School. For the second-straight season, the Tullahoma High School tennis team will have a boys’ doubles team representing the Wildcats in the TSSAA State Championships. As juniors last season, Ryan Tennison and Luke Reagan made school history by being the first THS boys double team to qualify for state. The duo will again compete in Murfreesboro when they lead off their state tournament by facing Science Hill’s Newton Raff and Shreeyan Papireddy on Thursday. Matches get underway at 10:30 a.m. at Adams Tennis Complex.
