International Folkfest returns to Tullahoma

The International Folkloric Society Planning Council will be bringing its International Folkfest back to Tullahoma Tuesday, June 10, at South Jackson Performing Arts Center.
The performing arts center will welcome musicians and dancers from Estonia, Poland, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. for the folk festival event, which starts at 7 p.m. Tickets of the event are $10 for adults and $5 for students 16-years-old and younger in advance, while $12 for adults and $7 for students at the door.

The folk troupes will also be joined by the hosts of festival: Rutherford County’s Cripple Creek Cloggers, and The Slim Chance Band, featuring Rob Pearcy as the Director.
The International Folkfest began in 1982 and this year will mark its 43rd anniversary.
Tullahoma isn’t the only stop for the International Folkfest, as approximately 110 dancers and musicians will visit and perform traditional music and dances from their countries in the middle Tennessee area from June 10 through 14.
Formed in 1986, The International Folkloric Society Planning Council, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Murfreesboro. Its mission is to promote and preserve international cultural heritage with a primary focus on the arts. It is a partner of International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) and the festival is one of three festivals still going in America. The CIOFF has been working since 1970 for the safeguarding, promotion and diffusion of traditional culture. At present, CIOFF worldwide membership covers 110 countries of the world, where over one million people, including over 30,000 folklore dance and music groups and folk arts organizations, are associated with CIOFF.
