Above it All
K
“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:1-6.
In a world torn by evil, fear and confusion I pray that you can feel God in this moment. As believers we must find restitution and resolution in our hearts that will reveal to us the urgency of this place in time – the urgency to share love, bind darkness and speak the truth of God’s divine truths to all who would have ears to hear. This is not the time to turn against each other whether it be family, friends, co-workers or community members, but an imperative time to join together in unison to rise up against the malicious work of evil doers. Although it seems as though life as we know it is beginning to fall apart before our eyes you can rest assured that God is still above it all. God is above the violence, the wickedness, the illness, the disease, the financial burden, the manipulation, the narcissist behavior and all the plots of the enemy. Our role as Christians is simple – love. How do we love in this time of unrest? We remain in unison just as God has called for us in the verse above. You must remember, Paul was imprisoned while writing this passage and his desperate plea and instruction to the Ephesians was to remain in your calling just as he was doing while in physical constraint.
Although the environment around Paul was filled with death and ruin, he still had Jesus within him which remained steadfast in living out his calling. I would urge you to dig deep into God’s word this week and fill yourself up with His truth so that when you are faced with these times of fear and destruction you can have peace knowing you are occupied by the One who is already there. This unity Paul is referring to is a unity that comes natural when you are born again Christians. It is not something that has to be taught or worked out – it is already there. When my small children get in a scuffle, the disagreement doesn’t last long because they are unified by their shared blood. The peace and unity comes moments later even without my intervention because of the love and bond they share.
We as Christians are but one body, one blood, one Spirit and the power we have when joined together is unequivocally the most critical movement our world needs at this time. Maybe you can’t see all that is going on in the world because your own home is filled with unrest. Read Ephesians 4 and apply Paul’s words to your own circumstance – take authority over your home and begin creating an environment of unity that is desperately needed. Your calling isn’t to save the world, friend. Your calling starts in your home, your church, your community and your heart. Unity is only created when humility, gentleness, patience, peace and love are all exercised and poured out in every area of your life. What if I do all that and don’t get it back? You continue pouring. Your mission in Christ never changes even when the response is not reciprocated. You are called to rise above it all and love anyway.
“He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.” John 3:31.
Blessings,
Kayla
