100 years and counting–Jean Sanders celebrates centennial birthday

Long-time Tullahoma resident Jean Sanders achieved a rare milestone when she celebrated her 100th birthday this past week.

Jean celebrated her centennial birthday with her friends and family at Morning Pointe of Tullahoma this past Sunday, June 15.

According to Morning Pointe’s Communications Specialist Heidi Pino, Sanders was born and raised in Norfolk, Va. Later in her life, she met William Sanders, who served three years in the Pacific Theater in WWII. They would marry in November 1946 and settle in Tullahoma, where they would raise three children. While raising the family, William ran the family business Builder’s Supply, which is still going today, while Jean was a homemaker.

Jean volunteered at Harton Regional Hospital, now Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, and was very active at First Methodist Church.

During warmer weather, Jean enjoys sitting on the front porch talking with friends. She enjoys visiting with her family, including her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Once a month, First Methodist Church holds communion, and Jean always attends.
