Why society struggles to accept that there are only two sexes
B
The debate over gender and sex has become one of the most contentious topics in modern discourse. Despite scientific and biological evidence confirming that humans are a sexually dimorphic species—meaning there are only two sexes, male and female—many insist that gender is a fluid spectrum. This resistance to biological reality often stems from a misunderstanding of the difference between sex and gender, as well as the influence of social activism and psychological conditions like gender dysphoria.
Biology is clear: two sexes, no exceptions
From a biological standpoint, human reproduction depends on two distinct sexes. Males produce small, mobile gametes (sperm), while females produce large, immobile gametes (eggs). This binary system is not unique to humans; it is the foundation of sexual reproduction across nearly all complex life forms. Chromosomes reinforce this distinction—females have XX chromosomes, and males have XY. While rare genetic variations (such as intersex conditions) do occur, they are developmental anomalies, not evidence of a third sex.
Attempts to argue that sex is a spectrum ignore the fact that these exceptions are medical conditions, not additional categories. Just as having an extra finger doesn’t mean humans have a variable number of digits, intersex conditions don’t negate the biological binary.
Gender Dysphoria: A psychological condition, not a new sex
Gender dysphoria—a condition where a person experiences distress due to a disconnect between their biological sex and gender identity—has been misrepresented as proof that gender is non-binary. However, dysphoria is a recognized psychological disorder, not a biological phenomenon. Just as other mental health conditions (such as depression or anxiety) require treatment, so too does gender dysphoria.
The solution is not to deny biological reality but to provide compassionate care that addresses the root of the distress. Affirming a false identity as a long-term solution can be harmful, especially when it involves irreversible medical interventions. Studies show that many children with gender dysphoria outgrow it naturally if not encouraged to transition prematurely.
Life is binary, and so are sexes
Nature operates in binaries—hot and cold, day and night, awake and asleep. These dichotomies don’t imply that there are no variations in between (such as twilight or warmth), but they acknowledge fundamental categories that define existence. Sex is no different. The insistence that gender is a spectrum ignores the fact that personality traits, interests, and behaviors do not change biological reality.
A man who enjoys traditionally feminine activities is still a man. A woman with masculine traits is still a woman. Personality and preferences are not the same as biological sex. The confusion arises when society conflates gender roles (social constructs) with biological sex (an immutable fact).
Social pressure and the rejection of reality
Why does society resist this truth? Much of it comes from political activism that prioritizes feelings over facts. Activists argue that denying gender fluidity is oppressive, but in reality, denying biology is what leads to harm. Women’s sports, prisons, and shelters are being compromised by allowing biological males to compete or reside in female spaces. Medical professionals are pressured to affirm gender identities without proper psychological evaluation, putting vulnerable individuals at risk.
The push for gender ideology is also driven by profit. The gender transition industry—from hormone therapies to surgeries—is a multi-billion-dollar business. Activists and corporations benefit from convincing people that changing genders is both possible and necessary.
Common sense must prevail
It’s time to return to reason. Biology is not bigoted; it is simply fact. Acknowledging that there are only two sexes does not negate anyone’s humanity—it grounds the conversation in reality. Compassion for those struggling with gender dysphoria should not mean abandoning truth.
The path forward is clear: uphold biological reality while treating individuals with kindness and respect. Society must reject the false notion that gender is fluid and instead focus on helping people align their minds with their bodies, not the other way around. Life is binary, and so is sex—no amount of activism can change that.
