God + Country

Happy 249th Birthday, America! July 4th, also known as Independence Day is a United States holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 which declared the thirteen American colonies independent of Britian.

This freedom still reigns true today as we are able to live a life of fullness and thankfulness because of this beautiful country we reside. I am sure that it is not lost on each of you just how blessed we are to have the spiritual freedom to share our faith with others. We have the ability to write weekly articles, share on podcasts, lead congregations, gather for Bible studies and so many opportunities beyond. I can confidently say that I have taken my freedom of religion for granted as I spoke on stages, shared on the airwaves and sit to write “Table Talk” each week. I of course ask God for wisdom and discernment, but I have never been fearful of sharing God with others through my heart and hands. It is most certainly a direct reflection of the liberty many of us feel as citizens of the United States of America, but let’s not lose sight of the cost of freedom. Just as a citizen of the Kingdom, we must realize the price that was paid for red stripes on our flag and those across the body of our Savior. Friend, nothing in life is free. Your faith was bought with a price and the ability to speak boldly of a Father from coast to coast was also consumed in that offering.

For the kingdom is the Lord’s: and He is the governor among the nations.” Psalm 22:28. I love my country in all it’s glory, but God has also shown me the importance of His hand throughout the entirety of the world. The grand design of God’s plan is unfolding in countries I have never seen and in the most incredible and glorious ways – an awakening to my spiritual eyes that I never knew existed. I am proud to see the book of Revelation playing out in front of world and witnessing all the ways God is using so many countries to bring it to pass. I know that is a scary thought for many as we see wars, famine and desolation, but rest assured that God is still on the throne.

The 4th of July symbolizes a freedom that many people around the world do not have – may you be reminded to pray for those outside of your own borders near and far. We live in a land of dreams, abundance and independence, but it is our duty as a dual citizen – of Heaven and Earth – to not forget the value placed on flying old glory and sharing the name of Jesus. That freedom in Christ is for everyone, in every city, in every country, in every corner of the globe. This holiday is a special day for American patriots, but I pray it is a prompt of our calling to help bring freedom into the lives of others by sharing the gospel and loving just as Jesus does.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:12.

Blessings,

Kayla
