Kaitlynn Gattis pledges to play at Motlow

Junior Kaitlynn Gattis put together a strong junior season for the Lady Wildcats’ softball team. This past week she committed to Motlow University to play softball at the college level.

Gattis put up some great stats in her third season of high school softball. She finished the season with a .265 batting average, the second most home runs on the team (2), and the second most RBIs (32). Here is a look at some of her best games from her last year of softball.

Best games of Gattis’ 2024-2025 season

On March 13 Gattis’ lone hit set the tone in a 13-3 win over Marion County. In the first inning she struck a triple that got the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead, scoring in Maggie Lynch. She went on to get two more RBIs in the contest.

On March 25 in a 13-3 win over Central Magnet Gattis went perfect from the plate. She was 2-2 with a walk and three RBIs. She also had the second most bases on her team for the game with three.

Trailing 10-7 going into the bottom of the seventh inning Tullahoma found a way to come out on top against Siegel on April 2. In the final frame of the game the ‘Cats were able to get the bases loaded with no outs. Miaha Johnson then stepped to the plate and delivered a single to left field that cut the score to one run—Aleigha Raby and Ellie Simpson scored making the score 10-9. The Lady Wildcats proceeded to get two outs following the two runs leaving the game all in the hands of Gattis as she walked to the plate.

The senior worked a 3-1 count and then sent the next pitch on a line drive to left field. Kylee Holt and Addyson Norman rushed home and scored. Gattis secured a double and gave Tullahoma an 11-10 walk-off win. She ended the game 3-5.

On April 8 against Marshall County, Gattis produced another walk-off winning hit. Down 8-6 Gattis stepped to the plate and scorched a ball over the center field fence, for a walk-off home run. This scored three runs and gave the Lady Wildcats a 9-8 win. She ended the game going 2-4 with a game high six bases.

On April 22 Gattis got her second homer of the season in a 15-7 win against Blackman High School. After trailing 5-0 the Lady Wildcats stormed back to get the win over the Blaze. Gattis’ hit a grand slam home run that sealed the deal for the come from behind victory.  Her shot over the fence took place in the bottom of the sixth with an 11-7 lead. It made the eventual ending score of the game, 15-7.

“KG is a D1 hitter so Motlow is getting a steal out of the recruiting class. She is a great player, student, and young lady. KG is also an excellent leader that will be sorely missed after next season, but we are happy and proud for her and her family,” said head coach Gary Barfield regarding Gattis.

It will be exciting to see what the class of 2026 Lady Wildcat can accomplish in her senior season.
