Young philanthropists raise funds for animal shelter

A young resident of Tullahoma, Calum “Cal” Henderson, assisted by his cousin Ivanka Goldberg of New Jersey, ran a spirited lemonade stand with a heartwarming purpose on July 5– to raise funds for the Tullahoma Animal Shelter. With the help of their grandmothers, Susan Eckles and Janet Goldberg, the entrepreneurial pair served up cold drinks, lemon cookies and warm smiles, collecting a record-breaking $457.58 in donations from generous community members.

This marks the third year of the lemonade fundraiser, which has seen steady growth in both participation and support. Their first year brought in $90.75, and the second raised $236.00. This year’s total makes 2025 their most successful year yet–a testament to both their hard work and the compassionate spirit of the Tullahoma community.

To ensure the funds reached their destination safely, Cal and Ivanka visited US Bank, where team members Tina Lejeune and Patricia Thayer assisted them in turning their earnings into a cashier’s check made out to the Tullahoma Animal Shelter.

On July 7, the children proudly presented the check to Phil Henderson of the Tullahoma Police Department, which partners with the shelter. The donation will go toward fulfilling the shelter’s wish list of supplies, treats, and other necessities to help care for the animals awaiting their forever homes.

“We’re so excited to help the animals,” said Cal “They need toys and food, and we are happy to help them.”

The Tullahoma community continues to inspire with its generosity, and Cade and Ivanka’s initiative serves as a bright example of how even the youngest citizens can make a meaningful difference.
