Plans have been put into place to protect Stewart Street from damage from the ongoing construction of a subdivision off Old Tullahoma Highway.
The Planning and Zoning Commission was assured recently that plans are in place in the construction site to avoid using the city street for heavy construction equipment. The original building project of 30 structures has been planned for the site and developers have been able to acquire some land off Cobb Road that will allow them to build a 20-foot fire lane that will permit construction vehicles to come in and out without using Stewart Street. With the fire lane and a barrier that will stop access to the work zone from Stewart, Interim Planning and Development Director Samuel Luthi told the Commission that that should keep any damage from happening.
“We have taken pictures of Stewart Street,” he revealed. “Should there be accidental damage then the applicant can be held responsible. I think that should alleviate concerns of not having dump trucks going in and out (on Stewart).
