Seniors in the Spotlight: McLayne Bobo

GRAY DEYOSports Writer

After an impressive junior season on the hardwood that saw Tullahoma’s McLayne Bobo win the district MVP, another big season likely awaits in her final season playing for the Lady Wildcats.

Bobo made it clear at the start of last season that she was one of the best 3A players in the state. She could score, play make, and most importantly adjust. After a few monster scoring performances at the start of the season teams started to double team her. After a couple games she figured out how to play around it and continued to impact the game at a high level. In her last season of hoops her opponents will likely already have her calling card, and will be sending multiple players at her as soon as the season opening tipoff initiates in late November. Bobo with her experience will be ready for this.

As far as what could change for Bobo in her play next year at a role standpoint, there is not that much. She will still be relied on to score heavily, guard at a high-level, and initiate their offensive sets. The only thing that will change somewhat are the players around her.

Two starters Isabella Lidstrom and Lakaiyah Barnes just graduated and Addison Vincent who started a few games last year will not be playing this season. And although it is sad to lose these talented players, more talent is on the way. There are several players who showed flashes last season that they could provide a positive impact when called upon. It will be exciting to see how these players do when they get the opportunity.

Here is what the head coach of the Tullahoma girls’ basketball team expects from Bobo in her senior season.

“We expect great things from McLayne this season. She is a relentless worker, which creates improvements. We expect that McLayne will improve as a leader, defender and more efficient scorer. She has all those tools but is striving to raise her standards,” said coach Hibdon.

With a long offseason spanning from the last time the Lady Wildcats played in February, come November her game will be as sharp as it has ever been in her last year at THS.
