Prayers for Back to School

K

As parents of an elementary school student this year our hearts are consumed with the worries that come with sending your child out into the world seemingly all alone. As the worries turned in to anxious thoughts, I knew I would have to grab ahold of those lies and seek God’s direction. I believe as parents we have been called now more than ever before to pray, guide and protect our children in this battlefield of life. I had someone tell me years ago, “If you don’t pray for your children, who will?”. This question was one of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned on my walk with Christ. It is our responsibility to pray fervently over our babies no matter how old they may be. God entrusted us with their souls and the enemy is seeking to kill, steal and destroy them every day. Read Ephesians 6:10-20 today and prepare yourself for battle! “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:10-13

If you continue reading through verse 20 you will see that this passage reveals to us the importance of covering ourselves and our families with the power of God’s Word. We as parents are called to pick up our swords and fight for our children every single day in every single season. As I talked with God and sought His wisdom for how to pray and protect my child as she embarks on another new adventure, He revealed to me these specific prayers we can all pray this week and even while physically walking around their school.

  1. Pray over his/her faith.
  2. Pray over his/her gifts and callings.
  3. 3.       Pray over his/her school, teachers, faculty and staff.
  4. Pray over my relationship with him/her.
  5. Pray over fear in his/her life.
  6. Pray over generational curses.
  7. Pray over his/her vision for the future.
  8. Pray over his/her relationships – teachers, friends and coaches.
  9. Pray over depression and anxiety.
  10. Pray over his/her prayer life.

I hope that reading through these prayers encourages you to also put on the full armor of God and get ready for battle on behalf of your child as they begin a new school year, a new journey and new season. May you feel peace knowing God seeks to equip your child with all they need to be successful in every area of their life, but please don’t lose sight of your role in this very vital part of their walk. I pray your child’s school year is full of new adventures, joy, blessings and growth!

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

Blessings,

Kayla
