Three games were played in the Tullahoma Adult Baseball league on July 31. Here are the results of those games.
Shebvul Shovels vs Stache
The Stache grabbed their fifth win of the season dramatically, in a 6-5 victory over the Shebvul Shovels.
The Stache trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. In the frame, they were able to apply great pressure, getting their first two batters on base without any outs. Sean Whinnery then stepped to the plate for the Stache and smacked a fly ball single to center field to cut down the three-run lead to two. Brian Ferguson then came up to bat and hit into a double play. Despite that, the Stache’s runner on third scored and made it a one-run game at 5-4.
At the top of the last inning of the game, the sixth inning, the Shovels’ offense was shut down. They sent three batters to the plate, and all three did not reach base. This allowed the momentum surge the Stache picked up in the fifth to move into their final chance at winning the game in the bottom of the sixth. To start the inning, three of the first four batters boarded the bags for the Stache. This left the bases loaded with one out. Dylan Ward then came up and tied the game for the Stache. He sent a ground ball single that split the second baseman and first baseman, to tie the game at 5-5. Jax King then walked out of the batting circle with an opportunity to win the game with one swing of the bat. King up to that point was 0-2 on the day.
On the first pitch, he swung through the pitch for strike one. He regathered himself, locked back in, and awaited the second pitch of his at-bat.
King did not miss this pitch.
He sent a ground ball RBI walk off single through center field and helped give his team a 6-5 win. The Stache are now 5-2 on the year, while the Shovels lost their third game in a row and are now 4-3.
Royals vs Athletics
The Royals put together one of their strongest performances of the season, beating the Athletics 12-1.
The Royals made a statement in the first inning of this contest, putting up six runs in the opening frame. This damage came from three walks and three hits. Will Parker and JJ Webster both had RBI singles in the inning.
In the last game they played, the Athletics’ put up a dozen runs. But against the Royals, they could not get anything going. Royals’ pitcher Jacob Baker pitched all four innings of the contest and only allowed two hits. He also produced three strikeouts in his appearance. If the Royals can get more consistency from their pitching moving forward, they could climb into contention for the top spot in the standings.
They have put up nine or more runs in four of their seven games this season.
With the loss, the Athletics drop to 2-5 on the season while the Royals improve their record to 4-3
Piñatas vs Reds
The Piñatas won their fourth straight game on July 31, beating the Reds 11-1.
After starting the season 0-4, the Piñatas are fighting their way back up the standings. They added maybe their best win of the season against one of the better teams in the league, the Reds. The Piñatas were consistent in their scoring in this contest, putting up at least two runs in each frame of the four-inning bout. The two top performers for the Piñatas were Brady Nugent and Coby Presley. Presley pitched all four innings and allowed just one hit and had four strikeouts. Nugent had the best day out of the Piñatas players on offense. He went 2-3 from the plate and had three RBIs.
The Piñatas after the win are now 4-3 on the season, while the Reds are now 5-2.
