Child care and housing are two concerns City Administrator Jason Quick revealed are on the minds of the AEDC base commander and employee leadership.
In his report to the board of mayor and aldermen at the July 28 meeting, Quick said he met with AEDC Commander Colonel Grant Mizell. He did so in his role as interim TAEDC director as the search goes on for someone to fill that position. Quick said there are around 30 applicants as the window for application closed July 31.
“I spoke with the commander about ways the city can continue to support the base,” Quick told the board. “The two areas that came out were housing and child care.”
Quick noted those are the two concerns shared most by the base in its relationship to Tullahoma.
Those concerns were echoed by the leadership of Beyond New Horizons. The company employees around 2,200 people at AEDC.
“One of his concerns are a large number of employees who drive from Murfreesboro and other places to come to work because they do not have child care options. They don’t have housing options,” Quick revealed, noting he showed New Horizons leadership the plans for development in the Tullahoma area.
“I showed them the plans for apartments that will be developed over the course of the next 12 months to 18 months,” he said. “I also shared with them a list of subdivisions coming into the housing market.”
