Clayton’s Shoes’ owner, Florence Clayton Hull, received an unexpected but pleasant surprise phone call last week. WKRN News’ Local on 2 journalist Sylvia Castaneda, wanted to stop by and interview her.
Local on 2 is WKRN News’ lifestyle show and covers local events, trends, shopping and dining throughout Middle Tennessee.
During the interview, which was filmed last Thursday at Clayton’s Shoes, Castaneda wanted to learn about the 100+ year old cash register Clayton’s still uses, and the history of the store.
Clayton’s Shoes is recognized as the oldest shoe store in Tennessee.
“I’m the fifth generation owner of Clayton’s Shoes and the first female owner. I’ve worked here almost 50 years,” said Hull.
WKRN News Local on 2 wanted to know how the store had been in business for 125 years. According to Hull, “We have always stressed service, quality and fit.”
While at Clayton’s, they also interviewed Annie Osborne, who was first employed at the store 73 years ago and still works in the store part-time.
When asked how Ms. Castaneda knew about Clayton’s Shoes, Ms. Hull said, “One of their favorite places to go in Tullahoma is Water’s Edge Chocolates, and while there, the staff suggested they stop by Clayton’s Shoes; that was mighty nice.”
The segment featuring Clayton’s Shoes will air in September. In September, the lifestyle show is moving to 9 a.m. weekdays on Channel 2.
