Cadet 2nd Lt. Elijah Phillips earns Billy Mitchell Award

Elijah Phillips, of the Tullahoma Composite Squadron, was recently awarded the General Billy Mitchell Award and promoted to the rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant.

According to 1st Lt. Norris Carden, commander of the Tullahoma Composite Squadron, the Mitchell Award is a prestigious award that marks a significant milestone in a cadet’s progression, recognizing excellence in leadership, aerospace education, character development and physical fitness.

The ceremony celebrated Phillip’s dedication and accomplishments, and the promotion signifies his transition into the cadet officer ranks—taking on greater responsibility and leadership within the program. Per Carden, fewer than 15% of all Civil Air Patrol cadets achieve this honor.

Presenting the award to Phillips were Carden and Tullahoma Mayor Lynn Sebourn.
