Former Wildcats Excel on Collegiate Level

GRAY DEYOSports Writer

Outside of the halls of THS, a few former Wildcats are shining in their respective sports at the college level. Here are a few updates on some THS alumni’s college sports seasons.

Cam Robinson

Graduating from the class of 2022 from Tullahoma, Cam Robinson, is shining in his senior year for the Maryville football team. Robinson is helping bring winning to the Scots football program, similar to what he did in his time with the Wildcats. In the two years he played for Tullahoma, the Wildcats had a record of 27-1. This included the 2021 season where Tullahoma claimed the state title in football.

In the season where the Wildcats won their second state championship in school history, Robinson played a crucial hand in it. He was a menace on the defensive end throughout the season and a key tone setter. In his senior season, he had 53 tackles, 10 of which were tackles for loss, with four of them also being sacks. He caused turnovers as well, forcing three forced fumbles on the year. Robinson just plays as an offensive lineman now for Maryville, but is just as impactful.

He was credited in his junior season for providing a much cleaner pocket for their QB than the year prior, reducing the number of sacks significantly. In 2023, in his sophomore year at Maryville they allowed 30 sacks; in his junior season, they just allowed 11. This helped the Scots have time to show off their dynamic offense. In the 2024 season, where they finished 9-2 overall, they had the highest total yards per game average in their entire conference. That same success on the offensive side has now bled into this season.

Robinson and Maryville in 2025 have a record of 5-0. They have yet to have a game where they scored under 30 points this year. There is still a lot of football to shake out before it is all said and done, but Robinson and the rest of his Scots teammates could be in the midst of a truly special season.

Isabella Lidstrom

Isabella Lidstrom is having a good freshman season for the Johnson University volleyball team. Lidstrom in her time for THS, was one of the best offensive weapons the program has had in a while. In her time there, she set multiple records, including most kills in a game, season, and all-time. That same offensive promise has shown up at Johnson University whenever she has gotten the opportunity to take the court. So far in 13 match appearances, she has a total of 41 kills. The most kills she has gotten in a game this season was against the University of Georgetown in Kentucky. She had seven kills in the contest.

Overall, as a team Lindstrom’s college, Johnson University, is having an impressive season. The Lady Royals have an overall record of 19-5, and are 7-2 overall in their conference. They have just over 10 games left in the regular season before they try to make a deep postseason run starting on Nov.12.

Jakobe Thomas

Jakobe Thomas has continued his spectacular final season of college football for the University of Miami. He and the rest of the Hurricanes in the newest college football AP poll rank as the number two team in the country, directly behind Ohio State. Thomas, in the team’s latest game, continued to become a fan favorite amongst Miami fans. His hard hitting playstyle has become one that they have loved, and the success and impact that comes with his intensive playstyle has helped improve the Hurricanes’ defense in a massive way.

In 2024, the Hurricanes allowed 25.3 points per game. This season through five contests, they have cut that amount drastically, giving up just 16.3 points per game. This comes with the Hurricanes playing two teams that were once ranked inside the top 25 and two that are currently ranked inside of it. Florida State was one of the teams that was once ranked inside of it, and were the Hurricanes’ latest opponent on Oct. 4.

Thomas in this contest against the Seminoles, had one of his best games of the season.  He had five total tackles in the game, tying his high on the season. One of these included a sack on Seminoles QB Thomas Castenallos. Another one of Thomas’ five tackles included a forced fumble, where he blew up a screen pass play. Thomas also logged an interception in the contest, which was his first of the season.

He and the Hurricanes’ next matchup in the 2025 season will be against Louisville this Saturday.

Grant Chadwick

Former punter for the Tullahoma Wildcats, Grant Chadwick, continues to impress in his first year for the LSU Tigers. In all five games he has played this season, he has had at least one punt go for over 50 yards. The Tigers’ starting punter for the majority of the 2024 season did not have a single game where he had a punt go over 50 yards. Chadwick has brought his booming kicks and then some for the Tigers.

In Chadwick’s latest game against South Carolina, he had a punt travel 71 yards. This ties for the seventh-longest punt in college football this season. The head coach of LSU highlighted Chadwick as being one of the main reasons for their win against Florida earlier this year, and he has continued to be a game-changer since then.

LSU, in the newest version of the college football AP poll, ranks as the 10th overall team in the country. Chadwick and the Tigers will have a tough matchup this coming Saturday as he comes back home to Tennessee to face Diego Paiva and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vandy is currently ranked as the 17th-best team in college football.
