The city has opted to accept $35,000 in free money from the state to help catch drunk drivers under a program offered by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
The grant is for $35,300 and would be earmarked for DUI enforcement in Tullahoma. The city has accepted the money for the past eight years. The grant is reimbursable meaning the city does not have to match the funding and that the reimbursement of costs is 100%. The city will be required to report to the state routinely during the grant term as to the effectiveness of the stepped up enforcement.
City Administrator Jason Quick told the city board that half of the amount will go to supplies, telephones and support.
“The other half goes to overtime salaries as offices as they are there to enforce the DUI laws and make sure our roads are safe,” Quick explained.
