GRAY DEYOSports Writer
A total of 11 Lady Wildcats soccer players were given district awards after defeating Central Magnet in the district final. Four were named to the second team, four named to the first team, and three received the middle fielder of the year, defender of the year, and MVP awards for the district.
Brindley Duncan
In a large pool of seniors, junior Brindley Duncan made her mark as a midfielder in her third year of high school soccer. With her play, she was given the midfield player of the year award in the district. Over the season, she always found a way to have a hand in some way in Tullahoma’s offensive output. Through 19 recorded games had 16 goals. This was the second most of any player on the team. Duncan was also a great creator. She made great and timely passes throughout the entirety of the season. She finished first on the team in assists with 15 through all games, not including the state tournament.
One of her best games of the season was against rival Coffee County earlier. On Aug. 28 in what ended up being an 8-0 win Duncan had one goal and three assists.
Lexi Chamblee
Senior Lexi Chamblee was the backbone of the best defense in the district this year. Her amazing play earned her the best defender award. As it has been repeated many times, the Lady Wildcats’ defense was elite this season. Through 19 games, they have only given up seven goals. Chamblee’s defense was a huge part of this. Her quick decision-making and experience are two factors that contributed to her being the best defender in the district.
With this, she was also active on the offensive end for Tullahoma. In 18 recorded games, Chamblee had six goals and five assists. One of her best games offensively in the year took place against Warren County. On Sept. 22, Chamblee found the back of the net twice in a 6-0 win for Tullahoma. This win against Warren County was one of Tullahoma’s 13 shutout wins in 19 games this season.
McLayne Bobo
It was only fitting that senior McLayne Bobo was named MVP of the district after her historic season. She became the all-time leading goal scorer of history in the Lady Wildcats program’s history this year. Through 19 games, Bobo netted a team high 36 goals. Her ability to get past defenders at ease and score from multiple spots on the field went into making her one of the best goal scorers in the state this season. Bobo also had three assists on the year.
One of her more memorable games from the season was in a recent playoff game against White County. She scored four goals in the contest, in what was a 9-0 win. Another game of note is when she had three goals against Coffee County on Aug.29. She has immense talent in soccer, and although her career in the sport is coming to a close, fans will still be able to watch her high-level athletic ability when she takes the hardwood for the Lady Wildcats basketball team later this fall.
