Traders Bank changes name after 126 years

If you have been downtown the past several days, you might have noticed a busy Cook Neon work crew removing Traders Bank signage off their building and replacing with Wellworth Bank signage.

After 126 years of Traders Bank, what happened?

In 2015, Traders Bank merged with Citizens Bank with their main office located in Lafayette, Tennessee. Other banks in the Citizens Bank family of banks include Bank of Celina, Liberty State Bank, Smith County Bank and American Bank and Trust.

Traders Bank has branches in Manchester, Winchester and Shelbyville.

All Citizens Bank family of banks are now united under the Wellworth Bank name.

Material mailed to Traders Bank customers explained the change stating, “For years the Citizens family of banks has been operating under several names in several communities. Now we have a look and a name that better reflects who we are and how we do business. Simply put, we’re just better…all together.”

The material offers: “What does Wellworth mean? The name Wellworth comes from the sentiment we hold dearest: that you’re well worth everything we’ve got to give. The bottom line? You’re worth it to us. Always.”

The material makes clear the bank did not sell. “We’re still the same company, owned and operated by the same people.”

The unique logo with a stylized “W” is composed of six segments coming together representing the six banks.

Traders Bank is Tullahoma’s second oldest bank, formed in 1899. Since 1893 and for approximately 80 years, the bank was located at 101 West Lincoln Street. In the early 70’s, Traders Bank moved to their present location, 120 North Jackson Street.
