City approves new animal control truck

The city has okayed the purchase of a new truck for animal control with a cost just north of $41K.

The 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 for animal control at a price of $41,929 from Carl White Auto Group in Nashville will be through state contract.

City Administrator Jason Quick pointed out that tradition has been that animal control has been issued hand-me-down vehicles from other departments once the vehicles have reached a certain mileage. Quick noted there is a reserve account for animal control equipment that would be able to cover the vehicle for animal control.

Alderman Matthew Bird said the animal control vehicle is a much-needed purchase.

Alderman Kurt Glick pointed to the city’s constant purchasing of vehicles. “I’m sure everybody’s noticed that over the last year we’ve bought vehicle after vehicle,” he began. “But I never see come across our desk where we are suplusing and from what I understand we have a lot of vehicles sitting around. It that is true, why aren’t we surplusing these things faster.”

It explained to Glick that there are annual sales of surplus vehicles so they are not accumulating. The funding for the new vehicle passed 7-0.
