THS wrestling picks up two wins in first home match

The Tullahoma Wildcats wrestling team and fan base packed into the Welsh wrestling center on Nov. 20 for the first home match of the season. Tullahoma took on Spring Hill and Marshal County High School and won both matches.

Marshall County

Tullahoma was able to dominate their matchup against the opposing Tigers, overall winning the match 68-3. The Wildcats had many standout performances in this match. They were getting pins left in right, in this match, as they had a total of five. These came from Say’vion Surles, Zachary Murphy, Dwayne Cook, Knox Grimes, and Elijah Horton. Tullahoma also had a few wins by forfeit against Marshall, as well as two wins by majority decision. The wins by decision came from Kiivon Butler and Neyland Dalton. Butler won his match 18-5, and Dalton won 12-3.

Spring Hill

The Wildcats against the opposing Spring Hill Raiders ensued in a close match. Tullahoma was able to get the win, carving out a narrow 36-31 victory.

Tullahoma secured three wins by pin against the opposing Tigers. Murphy got his second win of the day in the 138 lb. weight class, as he got another pin. After winning by forfeit against Marshall, CJ Weaver did not waste time in making an impact on the scoreboard, as he was also responsible for one of the pins against Spring Hill. The last pin in the match for the Wildcats came from Sylas McGowen. He also won by forfeit against the opposing Tigers. Tullahoma also had two wins by decision mixed into the outcome of this match. Keith Gardenhire won by a score of 7-1, and Dalton won by a score of 13-8.

The Tullahoma girls’ wrestling team was also in action on Thursday night. They won one of their two matches, winning 6-5 over Spring Hill and losing to Marshall 24-12. Against Spring Hill, the deciding win for the Lady Wildcats came from Alaiah Truehaft, who won by a pin. In the loss against the opposing Lady Tigers, Tullahoma won one match by a pin and one by injury. Treuhaft was the Lady Wildcat with the pin in this match, and Kacey Barecky secured the other win against Marshall.

The Wildcats will have a good-sized break until their next match. They will be back in action at Kirkwood High School on Nov. 29.
